Funky boys~ Why do they smell?

It’s a boy thing and I am just trying to understand. I am a mom of four boys and a new daughter. Perhaps I am emotionally immuned to the smells of what some say is a terrible, horrible, toxic and gross stinch from the boy’s rooms. I think I covered it the way they make it seem.

Although I do smell something, it doesn’t bring me to my knees in a stupor of funk.

Helpful Momma Advice from me:

Shower regularly
Get a separate hamper for the boys and put a car refresher thing in the bottom

When my hair, weave or natural, is not right fly me to the moon cuz nothing in my world is right. So here’s the question, to perm or to be natural?

Here are some interesting facts:

A perm or relaxer is very damaging to the hair.

There are two types of relaxers. They are SODIUM HYDROXIDE (lye-based) and GUANIDINE HYDROXIDE (no-lye). Although the no-lye products are thought to be less damaging, both types are harmful to the hair because in order to straighten it, they must first strip it of its natural moisture and then break down the structure of the hair.

Hair Damage
Sodium hydroxide and guanidine hydroxide both have a very high pH factor, meaning they are highly alkaline products. When applied to the hair, they immediately strip it of all moisture, because any retention of moisture would reduce the effectiveness of the straightener. This is why a deep-conditioning treatment is always applied to the hair after the chemical process. These treatments are designed to drive moisture back into the hair shaft and to coat the hair strand to make it look shiny and appear healthy, or in other words — to camouflage the damage. But no hair that has undergone a chemical relaxer is healthy. It’s been purposely and permanently damaged by the chemicals… and hair can’t be damaged and healthy at the same time.

Relaxed hair is always dry. This is why we’re constantly putting something on it.. oiling our hair and scalp two or three times a week. There are several reasons for this: 1) Start with the moisture-stripping process of the chemical relaxer that I spoke about in the above paragraph; 2) Add the steady regimen of hot-comb touch-ups, curling irons & flat irons (all work with heat which is drying to the hair) and hair sprays and styling/holding gels, (these contain alcohol which is drying to the hair). The natural oils our scalps produce can’t serve our hair’s needs. The scalp can’t manufacturer enough natural moisture to replenish the moisture we’re stripping from our hair on a daily basis; and 3) The products we usually use in an attempt to fight dryness (usually petroleum-based products, or “grease”) don’t really add moisture to the hair at all. They simply coat the hair with petroleum to provide shine. At the same time, they clog the pores of the scalp so that the scalp can’t secrete its own natural moisture.

Some people think that Black hair either doesn’t grow as fast as Caucasian hair or doesn’t grow at all. WRONG! All hair grows at the same rate on average inch per month. But the reason that most black women have shorter hair is because of breakage. Why does the hair break? Because of the harsh treatment we give it. We strip it of its moisture in every way we possibly can! So after a period of time (short for some, a little longer for others) the need for a cut to camouflage the damage done to your hair will become evident. When your stylist suggests a designer cut (like the fade), that’s your cue that your hair has had enough.

Hey Hey!
There are two maybe three things other than loving God, being a mother, minister, loving my family and writing that I absolutely love. Do you know what they are? Guess…..

I know you really wanna know what those things are? Come on, what else do you have to do today? If you know me well, you should already know. Veca is wild about ……..hair (to include: wigs, weaves, braids-big long amazing and wonderful hurh) ha ha ha. And she loves cereal (Kellogs Corn Flakes/Frosted Flakes with lots of sugar- and digg’em Honey Smacks (no sugar necessary). That’s better than … Okay TMI. ha ha ha. So there ya go– Veca’s true loves- hair and cereal. ha haha.

Well here’s my latest project- a bright colored lace front “partner” (never call them wigs that’s an insult to present day divas, okay). I grew all this new hair from my own hair shaft just last week. And that’s the truth til I meet Jesus. Amen and Amant. lol lol lol

Lace fronts are so cool. I haven’t mastered the application yet, but I am learning. I took close up shots so you can see it really close. When these “partners” are applied right, the look is electric. The other night, I was watching RuPaul’s Drag show- oh, I love that show. I wish they would do me- you know… do my whole make over. Like they called me in Texas, “Sasha Fierce” would truly be me. They rock. On the show, one of the contestants won a $1000 “partner”. I was drooling, okay. The room lit up and I saw stars. It was a beautiful lace front looked like a #30. (Only hair feens know hair numbers instead of colors) For a moment, I wanted to be a drag-queen. Uh, can I be a Queen Drag? Nah, that doesn’t sound right. Well either way, I love their look. It’s electric.

Oh yeah, I go weigh in today. Pass me not oh gentle savior. lol And of all days, my cycle started. Ugh. Be kind to me scale. Pray yall pray.

Exhortation: They Stole my blessing- Always a bridesmaid, never a bride

Have you ever found yourself watching others receive the things you want or need? My 16 year old son made a valid point, “God will give you blessings but then he will step aside to test you.”

You heard the saying, “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” Let’s take a real look at life’s situation.

Carrie wants to be married. She’s 35 and still single. Her friend rushes in announcing that she is getting married. The bliss of wedding enchantment begins. Carrie smiles while her stomach is doing somersaults. “Will you be my bridesmaid?” Her friend asks.

A stale void creeps onto Carrie’s face. Her mind is racing fast. This isn’t her first rodeo. In fact, she has a rainbow collage of bridesmaid dresses in her closet from other weddings she’d been in. Every color, every design. She thinks, “After all I’ve been through, why is it not my turn? What’s wrong with me.” She clinches her jaw muscles heavy in thought. “Lord, why am I never a bride always a bridesmaid?”

Real Ministry is this: What Carrie feels is real and honest. She wants her own husband and her own wedding day. But here’s the dilemma, can Carrie be happy watching someone else get what she is waiting for?

Stated by my son, “God will give you blessings but then he will step aside to test you. All challenges and tests are not prodded by the devil. God, our heavenly father, ascribes test as a teacher does a student to ensure a skill is learned, knowledge is applied, and information empowers growth. Therefore, the God tests that show up in life come to show you– You, your strengths, weaknesses, voids, areas of growth or not, maturity or the lack of, etc.

Standing in this test, can Carrie accept her friend’s offer and be genuinely happy for her?

Yes, if she is honest about her emotions.
Yes, if she allows the test to show her ..her truth.
Yes, if she realizes God has not forgotten about her. [Jeremiah 29:11]
Yes, if she remembers it’s not about her. It’s all about God’s will be done in earth as it is in heaven. [Matthew 6]
Yes, if she remembers the footsteps of the righteous man (woman) is ordered by the Lord. [Psalms 37:23]
Yes, if she can take a look beyond her own selfish emotions. God is no respect of persons. [Romans2:11]
Yes, if she can see that there is a time and a season for all things. [Eccl 3] Perhaps this isn’t her season to wed.
Yes, if she can take the time press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [Phil 3:14]
Yes, if she can remember to be steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing her labor is not in vain [1 Cor 15:58]

Then finally Real Ministry is simple-- “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strenthen, settle you.” [1 peter 5:10]

No matter the climb or struggle within, trust God with every heavy situation and circumstance. He is still the God of catching cares. His glove is never frayed or broken. Stay encouraged in the heavy– and move Forward.
